A CALL has been made to temporarily ban all recreational fishing on the lower Darling River for three months as more large, dead Murray cod have been found washed up near Karoola Station south of Menindee.

Menindee resident Graeme McCrabb said he had been in contact with NSW Department of Primary Industries about an embargo on all fishing between September 1 and December 1, which is the closed season for Murray cod.

Mr McCrabb said the ban would extend along a 300-350km stretch of the Darling River from the main weir at Menindee to Burtundy weir halfway between Pooncarie and Wentworth.
