Flu adds to doctor strain: Patients waiting up to a week as GPs work without break

MILDURA’S health system is at breaking point with patients being forced to wait up to a week to see a doctor.

An outbreak of a highly contagious influenza virus and a general shortage of doctors in the region has put a strain on the availability of GPs who are “working their butts off” in an effort to keep up with demand.

Mildura GP Dr Gerald Murphy yesterday said his Deakin Avenue clinic had put a “hold” on accepting new residents to town as patients because it simply could not fit them in.
