Rural NSW is reaching ‘crunch point’ as drought hits hard

NSW councils have called on the Federal Government to release its urgently-needed drought package – a national plan expected to be backed by funding from the Prime Minister’s $3.9 billion Drought Future Fund.

Local Government NSW president Linda Scott said farmers and regional communities across NSW were keeping the faith and hanging on by their fingernails, but time was running out.

“More than 97 per cent of NSW is still in drought and we’re expecting below average rainfall this winter,” Cr Scott said.
