THE Mallee’s sustained dry spell to start 2019 could lead to the fire season starting earlier this year.
The first six months of 2019 have been the third-driest since Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) Mildura Airport records started in 1947, with less than 50mm of rain having fallen between January and June.
It has been categorised by BOM as a serious to severe rainfall deficiency and below-average rainfall has been forecast for the next three months.
