There have been claims of increased hypothermia among older (retired) Australians might be linked to ever-growing electricity and gas costs, and an “inadequate” pension.
It might also be linked to the way some choose to spend their discretionary income such as pokies, the punt, booze and cigarettes.
It might also be about an inability to simply manage one’s (limited) finances.
I am a recipient of the age pension (my only source of income) and have no trouble paying my power bills and I do not go without in other ways.
However, the single age pension (about $1830 per month) only goes so far.
To describe it as “inadequate” is laughable.
It is generous and is the envy of the rest of the world.
