THE Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has come down hard on Mildura Council, fining it more than $16,000 over two licence breaches at Mildura Landfill.

EPA north-west manager Dr Scott Pigdon said a fire on April 14 was small and quickly extinguished, but remained concerning, and a licence condition was that waste was not burnt.

“Any fire at a landfill has the potential to have a negative impact on the surrounding community,” he said.
