Blockie wars: Irrigators at odds with the council over planning laws

FOR more than a decade, Mildura growers have had their livelihoods compromised because of an Amendment imposed by the Victorian Government.

In 2009, it was decided growers would not be able to build dwellings or subdivide their land in the Mildura Older Irrigation Area in a bid to protect it from urban encroachment.

Then in 2016, Amendment C89 allowed farmers to apply for a permit to build on a farming zone allotment less than 10 hectares (25 acres).
