Torrita community wants speedy sign alteration

RESIDENTS of the small Mallee township of Torrita have won a 15-month David and Goliath battle to have speed restrictions enforced through the grainbelt.

But almost four weeks after VicRoads agreed to a turnabout speed limit of 90km/h through the town, residents say they are still waiting for an accident to happen with 110km/h signage yet to be replaced.

Torrita residents said the lives of school children and other residents were at risk each day after the highway speed limit in Torrita was increased from 80km/h to 110km/h in March last year without public consultation.
