When I read Graeme Gibson’s letter in the On the Face of It column, I had to check it was not April 1.
If you take trucks off the roads, how do goods get from manufacturers to rail sidings or to shops? Everything we buy and use is transported by trucks.
Also if you have a look around there is not a lot of railway lines left.
As for accidents, 90 per cent of truck accidents are caused by cars drivers, as per insurance statistics.
Road transport is the fifth largest employer in Australia and is a large supporter of governments with all the taxes they pay (about $20,000 to register a B-Double, plus fuel ).
So Graeme, if we follow your ideas, I believe Australia will collapse.
