Salami season brings family and friends together

FOR Italian-Australian families across Sunraysia, the first sign of cold weather marks the beginning of a weekend where social plans are pushed aside, the hair goes up in a bun, the bonfire is lit, and the trackies, hoodies and runners are donned.

Like many others of my generation, I spent years dreading it and coming up with a myriad of excuses to get out of it.

Salami season. Traditionally held over the long weekend in June, life slows down as family and friends gather together to participate in a ritual that many have been doing since they were children.
