MALLEE voters swung against the Coalition in a very real way at the federal election.
Indeed, despite the option of both a National and Liberal candidate, only two of the electorate’s 93 physical booths recorded a Coalition primary vote that was higher than 2016.
But perspective is warranted.
First, some social media chatter suggested independent candidate Jason Modica “won” the town of Mildura.
While it’s true he won more booths on first-preferences than anyone else, add up totals from each Mildura polling place, including early voting, and Nationals candidate Anne Webster was actually stronger.
Dr Webster attracted 6592 first-preference votes, while Mr Modica had 5841.
