Bill Shorten appears on track to become Australia’s sixth prime minister in six years as Bob Hawke’s widow urged him to win it for the fallen ex-leader.
The death of one of the nation’s most popular former prime ministers sparked an outpouring of fond memories about Labor’s successful reform years in the 1980s and 1990s.
Mr Shorten visited Blanche d’Alpuget in Sydney yesterday morning after Mr Hawke died on Thursday aged 89.
