A LACK of a big, single issue to sway voters will work against independents trying to upset The Nationals in Mallee, a politics expert believes.
Deakin University senior politics lecturer Geoff Robinson predicts the Nationals will hold the seat at today’s election.
“Historically it’s a strong seat for the National Party and there’s the absence perhaps of the huge issues that would cause rusted-on National Party voters to shift,” he said.
“The anti-Nationals vote seems like it is going to be somewhat dispersed between Labor and at least a couple of the independents, and that’s going to be another problem as well I think.”
