SAFETY platforms and islands on residential streets are starting to crop up across the city as part of a Transport Accident Commission road safety program, but not all road users believe it will make streets safer.

The Safe System Road Infrastructure Program involves the roll-out of 40km/h speed zones, associated signage and raised safety platforms or concrete islands.

The works are mainly occurring in the areas between Fifteenth and Sixteenth streets and Deakin and San Mateo avenues to boost safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
