PATRICK Payne’s Ambush Alley claimed its first career win yesterday at Mildura Racing Club’s meeting.

Jockey Billy Egan piloted home the New Zealand bay gelding to a strong win by four lengths over Kaye Edwards’ Illowa with Erin Maher’s Translite another four and a quarter lengths back in the Mildura Field Days 17th and 18th May Maiden Plate.

Payne and Egan also combined for second in the second race of the day with Cashed up in the Bottle-O three year old Maiden Plate, which was won by the Ricky Bruhn-trained Klippen.
