Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence says the Victorian Government need to start staking the public transport needs of Mildura seriously.

Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence says the Victorian Government need to start staking the public transport needs of Mildura seriously.

THERE was no mention of passenger rail in the latest Infrastructure Victoria report, which included a 87-page profile on the Mallee region.

Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence has expressed disappointment that the burning topic was left out of a report that will help inform a 30-year infrastructure strategy for Victoria.

“Clearly, they have no intention of putting passenger rail up here anytime soon,” Cr Clemence said.

“There was no appetite on the part of the government to look at the issue, which is very disappointing because it is the view of a lot of regional local governments,” he said.

“The State Government should be looking at an overall transport plan for Victoria that should include fast rail all the way across regional Victoria.”
