A SUNNYCLIFFS man was in the wrong spot at the wrong time when he was running late for work and was clocked driving at 138km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Mildura Magistrates’ Court was yesterday told the man was running late for work about 7am on August 3 last year while driving south on the Calder Highway to reach Wemen.
Police prosecutor Raef Oliver said the man was travelling two cars ahead of police when he sped up to a “consistent” 140km/h to overtake vehicles, including driving over a painted median strip on the road.
Police activated lights and sirens to intercept the man, who told them he didn’t realise he was travelling that quickly and the offending was “a moment of stupidity”.
The accused told the court it was his last day of work at the Wemen site before starting another job in Mildura.
The man had his driver’s licence suspended for a mandatory six months and was fined $500.
