LETTER: Public funding should have limits

REGARDING “Perky” (Txt the Editor, Sunraysia Daily, March 5), I have strong reservations about public funding per se and there needs to be a limit. It entrenches party bureaucracies and they become non-responsive to members, which is highlighted by our current situation in which party membership has collapsed across all the major parties.

There needs to be substantial reform of how we fund political parties.

I believe donations that political parties receive should be limited to people who are registered voters and a low maximum should be enforced.

This I believe would make the parties put more effort into membership and be more responsive to rank-and-file members.
