THE rollout of the Victorian Government’s Labour Hire Licensing Scheme could exacerbate the labour shortage facing Sunraysia.
Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence warned next month’s implementation of the law, which requires farmers to use licensed labour-hire services providers only, could lead to a “massive” workforce shortfall unless a moratorium is implemented.
“We need a moratorium for the picking season during a transition period to allow the fruit to be taken off this season and by next season, hopefully, we can address some of these issues,” he said.
