Visa change no help: Labour shortage plan leaves Sunraysia growers out in the cold

THE Federal Government’s move to relax visa rules in the agricultural sector will not help Sunraysia growers to get their fruit picked.

Immigration Minister David Coleman yesterday announced Australia’s visa rules would be relaxed to make it easier for farmers to hire skilled seasonal workers.

But Trentham Cliffs citrus grower John Hederics said incentivising skilled workers to move to regional areas would not address the chronic labour shortage facing Sunraysia.
