BURONGA Landfill remains closed until further notice after it caught fire on Monday afternoon and was continuing to burn yesterday, producing potentially toxic fumes.
NSW Lower Western Rural Fire Service (RFS) Superintendent Steve Walker said the fire had, at one point, covered a hectare of land with 16 firefighters working to contain it.
In a post on its Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon, Wentworth Shire Council said the fire did not pose a threat to local residents.
