Mid-air drama ends in safe landing at Mildura Airport

A COCKPIT warning light caused a pilot to declare a mid-air emergency when he was unsure of the plane’s ability to land safely just after 6.30pm tonight.

The Ambulance Victoria aeroplane, operated by Pel-Air Aviation, was forced to circle above Mildura with three on board before the pilot was able to land safely.

Mildura Fire Brigade senior station officer Cameron Grambau said seven fire trucks responded to the emergency call.

Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) spokesman Peter Gibson said the plane’s unsafe landing gear warning light caused the pilot to call the emergency but the gear worked properly on landing.

He said a report to CASA would determine what caused the warning light to come on and if there would be a further investigation.
