Science body delays report into Darling River fish kills

THE Australian Academy of Science has requested an extra week to prepare its report into the fish kill events on the lower Darling River.

The Academy’s panel, convened at the request of Federal Opposition leader Bill Shorten, wants to analyse data provided by a range of federal and state agencies, including the Murray Darling Basin Authority, as well as continue wide consultation of researchers and Indigenous water experts.

“It is in the national interest to ensure all the available multidisciplinary knowledge is brought to bear in assessing this concerning situation and to help inform the scientific advice being prepared for this review,” an academy spokesman said in a statement.
