A SPIKE in drowning deaths has lifesavers urging those taking to the water this summer to stay aware.
Preliminary figures from Royal Lifesaving Australia showed the number of drowning deaths this summer has increased by 29 per cent compared to the same time last year.
As Sunraysia gears up to swelter through a week of extreme temperatures, Mildura Life Saving Club captain Dennis McLaughlan is urging those taking a dip to be diligent when cooling off.
