No beach to patrol for lifeguards as algae keeps crowds away

TESTING will continue on the Murray River this morning for potentially toxic blue-green algae after a red alert was issued on Friday from Lock 11 to the Chaffey Bridge.

Lower Murray Water communications and engagement manager Leesa Merrett yesterday said an update would be issued around lunchtime once samples taken this morning were analysed.

The Mildura Life Saving club yesterday cancelled its patrols at Apex Park beach as a precaution.

The Sunraysia Regional Algal Co-ordinating Committee issued the red alert on Friday after extensive testing by authorities
