MILDURA-based co-op Food Next Door has secured $80,000 in funding to help establish a community demonstration farm in Sunraysia.
The focus will be on increasing participation of new and established migrant communities, with John Niyera, a member of Sunraysia’s Burundian community, starting a part-time role in February to manage the project.
Food Next Door connects local refugee and migrant groups with local land to grow traditional crops and its first one-acre farm was used by members of the Burundian community to grow maize.
