DEPARTING Nationals MP Peter Crisp says a Mildura rail line upgrade that “paved the way for a future passenger train” was among his greatest achievements in politics.

In a statement issued after the Victorian Electoral Commission formally declared independent Ali Cupper the successful candidate in Mildura yesterday, Mr Crisp listed the highlights of his parliamentary career, including the $440 million Murray Basin Rail Project, which began in 2015.

The rail upgrades became delayed under the Andrews Government and the Coalition’s $80 million pledge to upgrade level crossings fell by the wayside with its landslide election defeat.
