Apathy or dejected? Poor voter turnout sees 5000 choose not to mark a ballot

MORE than 5000 Mildura District voters failed to have their say at the state election and a politics expert says it’s a sign conservative voters are frustrated with right-of-centre political parties.

Voter turnout in Mildura was 88.3 per cent this year – 4 per cent lower than the previous election four years ago.

In Mildura, only a single extra vote was cast this year than in 2014, despite the number of eligible voters in the electorate increasing by 1949 people.
