Albury long-haul trains 'precisely' what's needed for Mildura passenger rail

LONG-HAUL VLocity trains currently being designed for the Albury line would be ideal for a restored Mildura passenger service, a rail expert says.

Work has started to design components for a standard gauge VLocity, the modern form of V/Line train that only run on broad gauge lines.

Rail Futures Institute secretary Dr Bill Russell said the Albury plan – announced by the Victorian Government in August – solved one of the “key technical prerequisites” needed for passenger rail to return to the Mildura line.
