THE Mildura branch of the Liberal Party is already eyeing a tilt at the next state election when it will be allowed to stand a candidate in Victoria’s north-west.

Some Mildura Liberals had wanted to stand a candidate at this year’s state election but the party didn’t allow it because, under the coalition agreement, Liberal candidates cannot run against sitting Nationals MPs and vice-versa.

Election results could leave the Liberals better positioned to represent the Coalition in Mildura during new independent MP Ali Cupper’s first term.
