DISTRIBUTION of preferences is all that stands in the way of independent Ali Cupper being named Mildura’s state MP for the next four years.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) said yesterday there were no more votes left to count after 23 votes were added, meaning a result could be known as soon as today.

The VEC starts its preference distribution for Mildura at 9.30am and could be finished by this afternoon.

There is a possibility, however, this will carry into tomorrow.

Ms Cupper held a 239-vote lead over Nationals incumbent Peter Crisp after yesterday’s addition of a combination of early, provisional and absent votes.
