Wentworth Shire looks at library funds pitch

WENTWORTH Shire Council may back a campaign demanding more funding for NSW public libraries before the state election on March 23.

A report to go before tomorrow’s council meeting recommends councillors endorse the Renew Our Libraries strategy by the NSW Public Libraries Association and Local Government NSW and launch the campaign locally.

The report warned state funding for NSW public libraries had reached a “crisis point”, with NSW councils forced to fund 92.5 per cent of costs to operate public libraries, up from 77 per cent in 1980.
