THE Coalition have pledged to fund a state-of-the-art navigation system at Mildura Airport if elected, which would bring the region closer to securing a pilot training academy and mean less delays on days of poor visibility.
Member for Mildura Peter Crisp was joined by The Nationals leader Peter Walsh at the airport today to make the announcement of $4 million for an Instrument Landing System (ILS).
An ILS guides pilots during landing and is also a vital part of pilot training.
"There are negotiations under way to secure an academy for our community and with the right foundation we'll be in prime position to seize this new opportunity for Mildura," Mr Crisp said.
As well as boosting local training opportunities, a pilot training academy was expected to create an estimated 375 ongoing jobs.
