Melanie Whiting sat down with the new leaders to discuss their plans for the region over the next 12 months.

The retired detective and the tradie

As a former police detective and Mildura Inspector, Simon Clemence was no stranger to public life before being elected to Mildura Council in 2016.

He has spoken passionately about the scourge of the drug ice in the Sunraysia community and has fought to bring drug and alcohol rehabilitation services to the region.

In recent months, he has emerged as a strong leader in the council chambers on contentious issues such as the farm rate debate and PowerVault solar farm decision.
