WITHIN just days of 100 years to the date of his death, the gravesite of former Mildura man William Walker will be rededicated in Bristol, England, next month.
Born at Tolarno Station, near Menindee in 1878, Walker enlisted in the 16th Reinforcement, 6th Battallion, at 37 years of age, two years into The Great War.
Within a couple of months, he found himself aboard troop ship HMAT Suffolk, leaving Melbourne en route to French soil via Alexandria, Egypt, and Plymouth, UK, at an average cruise speed of just over 20km/h.
