STATE election candidate Steve Timmis has proposed the creation of the region’s first community-owned electricity retailer to tackle soaring power bills.
Called Mallee Power, the retailer would be not-for-profit and available only to Mallee residents, with cost savings to be passed on to the consumer.
“Most electricity retailers currently make in excess of 20 per cent profit,” Mr Timmis said. “The ability to purchase power at wholesale prices and pass it on directly to Mildura residents without placing profit margins on top will benefit us all immediately.”
