THE atmosphere was buzzing around the judges tasting wine entries at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show yesterday.
With 805 entries, including 101 grape varieties from across Australia, stewards were kept busy pouring wine and sorting bottles, with chief of judges Jane Faulkner ensuring a smooth process.
The Melbourne wine writer said the show gave non-mainstream wines, such as fiano and vermentino, the chance to be pitted against other wines of their class.
