MILDURA state election candidate Steve Timmis has slammed the Coalition’s plan to tackle council rates, saying ratepayers don’t want “another inquiry”.
If elected, a Liberal-Nationals government would set up an independent inquiry into farm rates in Victoria, as well as capping all rating categories while the review is undertaken.
Labor this week said it would hold an inquiry into the council rating system and vowed to take up the fight to unfreeze Financial Assistance Grants to rural councils.
