JUDGES at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show (AAVWS) will have their work cut out for them this week with 800 entries.

The show started in 1999 when Stefano de Pieri, Bruce Chalmers and Dr Rod Bonfiglioli initiated the Sangiovese Awards and continued with the Australian Italian Wine Show in 2000.

Following the success of these shows, the first AAVWS was held in 2001.
