Volunteers make races happen

For 92 year-old Gerald Byrnes, today’s Wentworth Cup can’t come round quick enough.

Mr Byrnes, from Cavan Station near Pooncarie, joins a big team of volunteers to make the one meeting a year at Wentworth a success. 

“He has been timekeeping for more than 50 years and it just wouldn’t be the same without him,” said current president of the 150-year old racing club, Annette Fraser.
