This time of year, I always get nostalgic recalling my Melbourne Cup experiences in the ‘70s.
In those days, the general public could secure a reserved seat in the stand opposite the winning post by lining up in a footy finals-like queue in Collins Street, Melbourne.
People would start arriving just before midnight with sleeping bags, blankets and a thermos of hot soup.
