DESPITE fewer overseas visitors travelling to the region across the past year, those who did stay in the Mallee stayed for longer and spent more money during their visit, according to the latest figures.
International visitor numbers dropped 12.5 per cent across the 12 months to June 2018, compared to the previous year, with 23,000 overseas tourists visiting the Mallee during their travels.
However Tourism Research Australia’s International Visitor Survey revealed nights spent in the region increased by 13 per cent to 757,000 nights across the past year.
