COOMEALLA Wentworth are in a commanding position after the first day of their match against Nichols Point at McLeod Oval.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Blues dominated scoring 9/277 off their 80 overs.

Opener Tom Douglas was in great touch amassing 104 off 200 deliveries.

Mildura East well placed

MILDURA East are in a strong position to win their first match of the season after a solid batting performance on day one against Mildura Settlers.

An unbeaten 90 by No.5 Shaun Mathews helped East to 6/227 off their 80 overs.

It has been a slow start to the season for last year’s semi-finalists after losing a number of key personnel in the off-season.

Good start blown

MERBEIN South squandered a good start to be dismissed for 136 in their match against top side Workers Gol Gol at Chaffey Park.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the home side started well with openers Sashika Fernando and Hamin Miah on top.

The pair were in an aggressive mood, putting on 40 for the opening stand before Miah was caught off the bowling of Matthew Boyd for 18.
