Letter: No party ties for mayor

In reply to Ian Felton’s letter (October 12) endorsing Glenn Milne returning to the mayor’s role, Mr Felton states: “My only observation is that over the years, our council has not brought enough pressure to bear on our local and federal members relating to major issues of infrastructure within our community”.

Glenn Milne was our mayor for seven years.

Since being dethroned he has publicly announced his membership of the National Party. This may explain why, Mr Felton. Both our state and federal members are National Party MPs.

We must have a mayor with no membership or affiliation with a political party. Mayor Mark Eckel has been doing a fantastic job. It is a pleasure to have someone representing all sectors of our community without fear or favour. Impartiality is essential.
