TWO independent candidates made their case to voters wanting a more interventionist approach on agricultural development than the major parties are inclined to allow at Mildura’s first election forum of this year’s campaign.
If any among the field thought water was a peripheral issue in Sunraysia voters’ minds six weeks out from the Victorian election, a full house of about 120 at the Mildura Rowing Club on Thursday night could have persuaded them to think otherwise.
And, in a campaign where the government and opposition barely differ on water policy, it was Mildura’s high-profile independent candidates that went against the grain.
