No sign of a agriculture visa solution

THERE is still no agriculture-specific visa policy in sight despite the summer fruit picking season approaching fast.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud was last month forced to reconsider the policy after cabinet colleagues rejected the idea of a special agricultural visa, which aims to overcome farm labour shortages in Australia.

It is estimated the Australian agriculture industry is currently facing a national labour shortage of 96,000 full-time skilled workers and 10,000 casual workers.
