Sunraysia man guilty of stalking

A SUNRAYSIA man sent his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend intimidating messages, including a claim he had links to the Bandidos outlaw bikie gang, after she broke up with him, a court has heard.

The 22-year-old faced Mildura Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with stalking his former partner.

The court heard the man sent the girl messages, including Snapchat images of her own home, after she ended their relationship earlier this year.

Messages were also sent to the girl’s friends, while, at one point, he claimed a relative was a member of the Bandidos and sent the girl photos of the bikie gang’s website.

The man was arrested on May 9, a day after he allegedly followed the girl as she travelled home from school. The man pleaded guilty to the charge and his lawyer, Anne Hennessy, said his intellectual disability was the reason he had struggled to deal with the end of his relationship.

She said the man had not contacted the girl for five months since his arrest.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan adjourned the case until next week, to give the victim an opportunity to file a victim impact statement.
