No move on Mildura Base Hospital management leaves voters waiting

NEITHER side of politics has given Mildura voters a clear indication of its position on private management of the Mildura Base Hospital, less than two months before the state election.

Health Minister Jill Hennessy remains tight-lipped about Labor’s plans for the hospital, even after Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford slammed the Coalition for placing it in the hands of private operators.

“There’s no other community in Victoria of that size that doesn’t have its own public hospital and that’s, I think, part of the legacy of the conservative side of politics taking this community for granted for a very long time,” Ms Pulford said at Labor candidate Tony Alessi’s recent campaign launch, where she also described Mildura Base Hospital as the Coalition’s “experiment” with privatisation that was “only stopped by the election of the Bracks government”.
