MONEY from the sale of environmental water will be reinvested back into projects to help the environment.
Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder Jody Swirepik said the proceeds from a recent sale of 20 gigalitres of water in the Goulburn system in northern Victoria netted about $290 per megalitre on average.
“There is certainly a lot of potential to invest in minor works and ideas that the community have in managing the landscape to get those environmental outcomes, so we’re very excited about that prospect next year,” she said. “They don’t have to be constrained to the Goulburn themselves so we can roll out some programs anywhere in the basin.
