VICTORIA’S first cross border commissioner will be based in Wodonga, with the State Government to announce the appointment of a senior departmental bureaucrat to the role today.
The Mallee Regional Partnership had lobbied the Victorian Government to appoint a commissioner to address cross-border issues and Mildura had been touted as the office’s potential base, given the city’s proximity to the NSW and South Australian borders.
While the Coalition had made an election commitment to base the commissioner in Mildura, the government indicated the new commissioner’s location would depend on its chosen candidate when it began taking applications several weeks ago.
